Join us to explore fan culture, intimacy and photography. In the 1970s and 80s, Gary Lee Boas was drawn to the aura of celebrities, performers and hustlers. Art historian and curator Dominic Johnson will place Boas 'in conversation' with artists from the wider New York scene, which included figures such as Andy Warhol, Candy Darling and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Boas' photographs depict a now vanished form of cultural access and erotic ease. Together Gary Lee Boas and Dominic Johnson will reflect on the encounters with stars and sex workers which led to Boas’ most iconic photographs.
This event is organised in partnership with independent publisher Bona Varda.
