In the 1970s and 80s, Gary Lee Boas was drawn to the aura of celebrities, performers and hustlers. Art historian and curator Dominic Johnson will introduce Boas, exploring his position within the wider New York scene. This scene included figures such as Andy Warhol, Candy Darling and Jean-Michel Basquiat. His photographs depict the cultural access and erotic ease to be found in New York in those years. Together they will reflect on the encounters with stars and sex workers which led to Lee Boas’ most iconic photographs.
This event is organised in partnership with independent publisher Bona Varda.
