Hidden Messages and Ciphers With Art on the Underground

5 March 2017 at 12.00–17.00

A chart from Johannes Trithemius's Steganographia copied by Dr John Dee in 1591. Image made available under the Creative Commons.

Explore the uses of steganography and cryptology through collaborative workshops and discussion

Join artist Emma Smith in this day-long research lab investigating coding systems and developing new ones.

Listen to invited experts discussing the history of steganography (the science of hiding information) and its relationship to censorship, and collaborate with others in sending and hunting for messages.

The day will include a talk by Emma Smith about her practice and research.

This event is programmed by Art on the Underground, a Tate Exchange Associate.

About Art on the Underground
