Tate Modern Performance

Junior Trinity Composer's Ensemble With Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance

23 March 2017 at 16.00–18.00
Photograph of young musicians

Young Junior Trinity Composers perform original music scores inspired by art works in the Tate collection

Junior Trinity invites you to observe their original music works and take part in a post-performance Q&A. Unique to junior conservatoires at the time of its inception, the Composers’ Ensemble at Junior Trinity exists to provide the conservatoire’s advanced performers with the opportunity to tackle the technical and intellectual demands of 20th Century and 21st Century Music, and to simultaneously give young composers a voice. The performers gain valuable experience working directly with their composer peers as collaborative partners in the composition process, often bringing the fruits of these relationships to bear in major Junior Trinity concerts, theatre and dance projects, art installations and site specific events.

Junior Trinity Composer’s Ensemble will replicate established compositional methods which draw on the visual arts, to create original, contemporary musical works inspired by the Tate collection.

This event is programmed by Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, a Tate Exchange Associate.

About Junior Trinity

Junior Trinity is a Saturday Music Department for 3-19 year olds at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance - the first Junior Department of a UK Conservatoire to open its doors to school children on Saturdays in 1906. Since then thousands of young people have benefited from the opportunities to make music as individuals and in a wide variety of small and large ensembles. From Trinity Teenies aged 3-5 right through to university and conservatoire entrance, the aim is to encourage a lifelong interest in music and to give students the opportunities to develop to their maximum potential.

About Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance

Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance is an international community of creative artists, advancing the art forms of music and dance through our innovative education, research, performance and participatory programmes.
