Catch a unique presentation of three of Tony Cokes' videos engaging with art criticism

Artist Tony Cokes presents a three-channel presentation of videos from his Art Critique series. The works in this series underline and question the systems of cultural production in capitalist society. Each work animates texts excerpted from the writings of art historians and pairs them with music that resonates with their content in unexpected ways.

shrinking.criticism draws from Julian Stallabrass’s ‘The Decline and Fall of Art Criticism’, which calls for a critical look at art’s entanglements with business and politics. studio, time, isolation: reconstructions of soul and the sublime draws from Tom Holert’s ‘Studio Time’, which looks at the changing status of the artist’s studio. Finally, leeds.talk.04 draws from Andrew Perchuk’s ‘Leeds Talk’, which looks at the relationship between art production and criticism in the 1960s and 70s.
