Join art historian and author Katy Hessel in conversation with Alain de Botton as they discuss her inspiring new book

Introduced by Maria Balshaw, Director of Tate, this special evening will explore how we can bring creativity into our everyday lives.

How to Live an Artful Life invites readers to see the world anew through the words and wisdom of artists including Marina Abramović, Nan Goldin, Lubaina Himid, Louise Bourgeois, Tracey Emin, and more. Guided by themes such as love, beauty, memory, and joy, the book pairs powerful quotations with Katy’s reflections and creative prompts, encouraging us to live more attentively and artfully.

Whether you are an artist, a writer, or simply someone who values creativity, this event offers an inspiring celebration of art and its power to transform the everyday.

Please arrive at The Corner Bar. The talk will commence at 19.00 in the adjacent Starr Auditorium. The evening will conclude with a Q&A session with both speakers, followed by a book signing with Katy.
