Over six sessions philosopher Nigel Warburton leads discussion about representation and the body in painting and photography with particular attention to the paintings of Marlene Dumas and works featured in Conflict, Time, Photography. Drawing on the work of thinkers including Erving Goffman, Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Jean-Paul Sartre, this course combines classroom discussion with visits to the galleries. No prior knowledge of philosophy or art history required. 

Nigel Warburton's books include The Art Question, A Little History of Philosophy, Philosophy: the Classics, and as editor, a book about photographer Bill Brandt. With David Edmonds he makes the popular podcast Philosophy Bites which has had over 22 million downloads and is the basis of three books: Philosophy Bites, Philosophy Bites Back, and Philosophy Bites Again.
