Join choreographer Eisa Jocson to learn the basic moves of macho dancing.
This slow seductive dance style portrays strength and dominance through tension and muscular movements. As part of the workshop, Jocson will explore the physicality of macho dancing and teach movements like macho posture and stance, macho walk and knee swivels and poses.
No dance experience is required – everyone can join in. Please wear rubber shoes and comfortable clothing. Kneepads are recommended for the workshop. We will provide these, however, if you like you are welcome to bring your own.
Eisa Jocson
Eisa Jocson is a contemporary choreographer from the Philippines trained in visual art and ballet. In her work, she studies how the body moves and what conditions make it move – be it social mobility, or movement out of the Philippines through migrant work. Through her explorations, Jocson has created an embodied archive of migrant Filipino labour, including a pole dancer, macho dancer, hostess, Disney princess, live girl band member, and zoo animal.
The workshop duration will be 3 hours including a 20-minute break.
We will provide light refreshments.
The workshop takes place in The Tanks, on Level 0 of the Blavatnik Building at Tate Modern. You can enter via the Turbine Hall on Holland Street, or into the Blavatnik Building on Sumner Street. All Tate Modern entrances are step-free.
Fully accessible toilets will be available to use in The Tanks.
