Across 11 weeks, learn about the ways in which curators at Tate develop, manage and engage with the collection, temporary exhibitions, public events and arts projects. Led by independent curator Alex Hodby, sessions are a mix of staff presentations, readings, discussions, practical tasks and visits to the galleries.
Throughout the course, Tate staff present on their work and engage in Q&A sessions about key issues. Students also engage in theory, reading and visits to galleries. A critical approach and understanding of contemporary curating practices are developed through a behind-the-scenes look at the organisational role of curators across a diverse range of the gallery’s activity.
No prior knowledge of art history or museum studies is necessary.

Biography
Alex Hodby has worked with art and artists throughout her career. She has worked as a curator for over 15 years, including at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and as an arts administrator in Manchester and as a studio director in Newcastle upon Tyne. She is currently working on an AHRC CDA PhD project with Tate Modern and Goldsmiths Department of Politics.
