My rukus! Heart Live Artistic Responses and Music Takeover

Topher Campbell

Immerse yourself in an evening of artistic responses to Topher Campbell's commission

A special evening celebrating the exploration of Black Queer life in Topher Campbell’s new commission at Tate Modern.

Artistic responses include writing from Imani Mason Jordan, sound from Rowdy SS, movement from Malik Nashad Sharpe in the South Tank.

The evening closes with DJ sets from Talia A. Darling and Lexii, hosted by Queer Bruk, as a celebration to embody the spirit of chaos and anarchy in the South Tanks.

This event is organised by Hyundai Tate Research Centre: Transnational in partnership with Hyundai Motor. Supported by The Rothschild Foundation.

Imani Mason Jordan

Imani Mason Jordan is an interdisciplinary writer, artist, editor and curator interested in poetics and performance. Recent projects include EARTHLY ACCOMPLICE, a collaborative performance with Felix Taylor (MACBA, 2023; Crossness Pumping Station, 2023), their solo performance TREAD/MILL: WIP (Somerset House Studios 2021, and Aspen Art Museum, 2022); ATLANTIC RAILTON: LIVE with Ain Bailey (Serpentine Pavilion, 2021).

Malik Nashad Sharpe

Malik Nashad Sharpe is an award-winning choreographer and movement director known for his provocative and formally engaging performance works that address themes of violence, alienation, horror, melancholia, and the horizon. He frequently choreographs underneath his alias, Marikiscrycrycry.

Rowdy SS

Rowdy SS is a London-born multidisciplinary artist. Often working at the intersections of sound and music, dance and movement, and live art performance alongside making video work.

Queer Bruk

Queer Bruk is an inclusive platform and club night that aims to bridge the gap between Afro-Caribbean music and queer nightlife, creating safe spaces for Black and Brown people to enjoy music.

Talia A. Darling

Talia A. Darling is a DJ and plus-size model, born in Hackney, East London. She's a genre-blending DJ with a special love for Dancehall which pays homage to Her Caribbean heritage, Grime and UKG which celebrates her Black British culture.

Lexii

As a lover of R&B, hip-hop, and UK urban music styles, including '90s and '00s R&B, Lexii uniquely blends these genres with house, techno.
