Actor Ben Whishaw in a film still of Peter Hujar's Day

Join an exclusive preview film screening of Peter Hujar's Day followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Ira Sachs and actor Ben Wishaw

The Peter Hujar Archive & Foundation, Pace Gallery and Maureen Paley present Ira Sachs' Peter Hujar's Day starring Ben Whishaw and Rebecca Hall in a richly cinematic rendering of a conversation between photographer Peter Hujar and writer Linda Rosenkrantz.

Recorded in 1974, Hujar talks his friend through the small moments that define an artist's life, capturing a single day's activities – from interactions with cultural icons of the day, including Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs and Susan Sontag, to the challenges of living downtown in 1970s New York.

Both elegant and intimate – and a dazzling showcase for the two performers at its centre – Peter Hujar's Day is a masterful portrait of both an iconic artist and an incomparable era for art.

The event is a film screening of Peter Hujar's Day and will be followed by a Q&A with Ira Sachs and Ben Wishaw.

You can enter via the Cinema entrance, left of the Turbine Hall main entrance, and into the Natalie Bell Building on Holland Street, or into the Blavatnik Building on Sumner street. The Starr Cinema is on Level 1 of the Natalie Bell Building.

There are lifts to every floor of the Blavatnik and Natalie Bell buildings. Alternatively you can take the stairs.

  • Fully accessible toilets are located on every floor on the concourses.
  • A quiet room is available to use in the Natalie Bell Building on Level 4.
  • Ear defenders can be borrowed from the Ticket desks.
