Join artist Quilla Constance in a series of open studios and become part of a specially commissioned oil painting which will present eclectic and diverse scenes from British society. The painting will be in-situ at Tate Exchange in September 2020. You will be invited to work with a selection of props, scripts, and music by composer, Cheryl Frances-Hoad and Quilla Constance/Producer Rafflesian.
Drop in, wear costumes, create performances, share your ideas, and be part of the dialogue as the painting comes to life.
This event is part of Teasing Out Contingencies, a free open studio project of active performances asking: 'what is British society now and where are we going?’
Quilla Constance aka Jennifer Allen dedicates this project to her beloved mother, Wendy Allen, a formidable, inspirational woman whose love crossed racial borders. In loving memory of Wendy Allen 1960-2019.
About Quilla Constance
Quilla Constance (abbreviated QC) is an 'exotic' militant punk persona created and performed by artist Jennifer Allen. Allen's artworks are informed by skills and knowledge acquired through practicing and deconstructing a variety of learned languages. Currently, through Quilla Constance, Allen stages interventions across an interdisciplinary practice of paintings, installations, costumes, photographs, live performances and music videos.
This project is supported by Arts Council England, Tate Exchange, Bedford Creative Arts and The Higgins Museum.
