Masterclass With National Saturday Club

Saturday Club Trust, Magnus Andersson

Join design collective Scale Rule and National Saturday Club members in a multi-disciplinary masterclass

Over two weekends, the National Saturday Club and Scale Rule will welcome 8 Saturday Clubs and over 150 Club members to take part in a multi-disciplinary Masterclass exploring the theme ‘The Power of Collaboration’.

Led by Scale Rule, the Masterclasses will give Club members the chance to consider selected artworks from the Tate’s permanent collection guided by professionals from a host of disciplines including engineering, graphic design and architecture.

In the Tate Exchange space, the young people will translate their responses to the artworks into three-dimensional forms. By weaving a tunnel and solving structural engineering challenges, the young people will employ spatial planning techniques, collaborating to solve a problem and to construct an installation. You are invited to see the young people’s work and share your own thoughts and ideas in response to the theme.

Masterclasses are a vital element of the National Saturday Club programme, allowing young people aged 13–16 unparalleled access to some of the best creative minds in the country and giving young people a truly memorable, informative and confidence-building creative experience.

About the National Saturday Club and Saturday Club Trust

As a partnership with the UK’s leading universities, colleges and cultural institutions, the National Saturday Club offers programmes of expert tuition in four subject areas: Art&Design, Fashion&Business, Science&Engineering and Writing&Talking. Each Saturday Club runs for up to 30 weeks across the academic year, using the specialist facilities of its location.

The National Saturday Club network is run by the Saturday Club Trust. Club programmes are tailored individually by tutors and are designed to encourage exploration and spark creativity. As part of their activities, Club Members take part in Masterclasses with leading industry professionals, come together for an inspirational visit to London, and show their work in a major public exhibition at Somerset House.
