Network with Tate specialists and Thick/er Black Lines for an evening of skillsharing for emerging artists

Share skills and network in this evening for young artists and early-career arts professionals. Hear from Tate staff and discover how different parts of the art institution operate. Including practical advice on drafting contracts, representation and agents, approaching curators, invoicing, tax and grant applications alongside understanding developments in Tate’s Collection.

Introductions by Tate staff members, descriptions of their role at Tate, what the job entails, outlines of career their trajectory and what skills and knowledge they hope to share.

18.30 – 20.00
Break-out sessions (informal group Q&A sessions themed around different aspects of working practice at Tate and the larger art world).

Understanding Promoting & Supporting
Tips on networking, building artist profiles, approaching commercial galleries and discovering new artists with digital content producers and business managers.

Understanding Collecting & Conserving
Tips on how Tate’s collection works, acquisitions, how to look after art works and preserve for future with conservators and Tate Modern's Director, Frances Morris.

Understanding Curating & Programming
Tips on how to propose a project and work with curators, from exhibitions to live projects.

Understanding Funding & Financing
Tips on how to finance your work and manage your time and money as a freelance artist.
