See Glauber Rocha’s epic final film in dialogue with an astonishing short by artist Ana Vaz

This screening presents the first public meeting of Brazilian filmmaker Glauber Rocha’s A Idade da Terra [The Age of the Earth] from 1980 and artist-filmmaker Ana Vaz’s A Idade da Pedra [The Age of Stone] from 2013. Rocha’s highly allegorical final film considers the impact of western imperialism on Brazil, while Vaz’s looks to geological traces to unearth an alternative history of exploration, prophecy and myth within the region.

We’re very pleased to announce that in addition to bringing together these two remarkable films, we will be presenting The Age of the Earth as Glauber Rocha had originally intended, leaving the order of its reels to be determined by the projectionist. With the rising sun as our only guide, this unmissable screening will showcase a landmark film as never before.
