Women in Art Symposium With W Project

7 March 2017 at 18.00–20.00

Join this special edition symposium from the W Project to celebrate International Women’s Day

The W Project returns on the eve of International Women’s Day with a very special symposium exploring diversity in the art world and the future of curation.

We invite you to join us at Tate Modern for an evening of insight and conversation with three curatorial visionaries who will share honest accounts of their inspiring journeys so far. We look forward to welcoming Tate Modern director and curator of 30 years, Frances Morris joined by the future of curation Cairo Clarke and Caroline Simionescu-Marin.

Co-hosted by Leyla Tahir, Kusheda Mensah and Loren Platt

With Music selections from Born N Bread (TBC)

Frances Morris is Tate Modern’s director and has played a significant role in the development of this British art institution since becoming a curator in 1987. Morris has been an advocate champion of female artists throughout her career, curating retrospectives of artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Agnes Martin and Louise Bourgeois. But her focus doesn’t lie exclusively on women, Frances Morris promotes diversity on all levels, making sure artists from diverse cultures and backgrounds are being seen and heard.

Cairo Clarke is a curator and Chelsea College of Art graduate who co-created an alternative summer programme at Bold Tendencies. Currently, Clarke is working on Touch Sensitive, an immersive exhibition exploring notions of the female body through a series of events and performances created in collaboration between Clarke and the artists. The show will take place between the 21st and 26th of March at Guest Projects’ space.

Caroline Simionescu-Marin is a music A&R at XL records, creative director at GRM Daily and host on Radar Radio. Simionescu-Marin is a true visionary and curator of the underground, founder of New Gen, amplifying important voices from London’s emerging music scene, she recently released critically acclaimed the New Gen compilation album with XL records.

This event is programmed by W Project, a Tate Exchange Associate
