Soapbox Colour and Emotion

Debate and discuss life and art, for people near or beyond the age of 60

Join us for a session about colour and emotion led by Siobhan Cox-Carlos.

How does colour effect your mood? In this session you will be taken on a personal journey through colour. You will explore the work of Henri Matisse, Marta Minujin, Cy Twombly, David Hockney and Willem De Kooning and consider how they have used colour to convey emotion. Through discussion and a short practical activity you will reflect on the ways colour enhances your daily life. What inspires you and how can colour help us to look inside ourselves and connect to our personal experiences?

What is Soapbox?

Soapbox is a peer-led session for people near or beyond the age of 60 to meet up and share views on life and art through topical discussion and debate. Each Soapbox meeting explores a range of art and artists from Tate's collection.

Joining Soapbox will challenge your thinking and allow you to say what you feel in a supportive and friendly group.

All Tate Modern entrances are step-free. You can enter via the Turbine Hall and into the Natalie Bell Building on Holland Street, or into the Blavatnik Building on Sumner street.

There are lifts to every floor of the Blavatnik and Nathalie Bell buildings. Alternatively you can take the stairs.

  • Fully accessible toilets are located on every floor on the concourses.
  • A quiet room is available to use in the Natalie Bell Building on Level 4.
  • Ear defenders can be borrowed from the Ticket desks.
