Writers on Art: Hilton Als

13 June 2019 at 19.30–21.00
Hilton Als

Hilton Als

Join Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Hilton Als for this special talk

Based in New York, Hilton Als is a leading voice in American culture, renowned for critical writing that spans multiple art forms and explores notions of race, gender and sexuality. He is chief theatre critic at the New Yorker, author of the acclaimed essay collection White Girls, and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for criticism in 2017. He has also curated exhibitions in the UK and the United States featuring artists such as Alice Neel, Celia Paul and Kara Walker.

This is a unique opportunity to hear Als deliver a newly commissioned talk. It is the second event in the Writers on Art series, which invites the best contemporary writers from around the world to produce new work on art and visual culture across Tate platforms. In addition to a public talk, Als’s work will appear in both print and digital form; through an article for Tate Etc. and a digital contribution for the Tate website.

This event has been provided by Tate Foundation on behalf of Tate Enterprises LTD.
