Join Jessica Warboys for an artist’s talk, screening and performance

Hear the artist introduce her forthcoming exhibition at Tate St Ives, Jessica Warboys, followed by a screening of Warboy’s film Hill of Dreams 2016.

Hill of Dreams follows a man through landscapes natural and painted, in part inspired by Welsh author and mystic, Arthur Machen’s semi-biographical, gothic novel of the same name. Warboys’ film is located within Machen’s environment - the hills of Caerleon-on-Usk, Newport – but the film flickers between fact and fantasy, past and present as it follows Machen’s protagonist, Lucien Taylor, on his journey through the Welsh hills.

Following the film, watch a new performance also titled Hill of Dreams, featuring actor Oliver Baggott, as well as Morten Norbye Halvorsen and Jessica Warboys. Taking the film as a frame to be rendered live, the character of Machen’s Lucien Taylor is revisited once more with choreography by Warboys and a soundtrack composed by Halvorsen comprising percussion, tape loops, sequenced synthesisers and hand bells played by Halvorsen and Baggott.
