Description
The diary contains daily entries written during the Gotch's visit to Australia, the sea voyage on board the ship The 'Torrens' and after their return to the UK.
The entries for Australia include brief details of the Gotch's daily activities and social engagements. Those written on the ship are longer and more detailed providing information about their health, their pursuits on board, including reading, concerts and deck games, and descriptions and sketches of the other passengers and crew. Also included is information about the speed and position of the ship, the weather, the wildlife and a description of Cape Town, South Africa. Briefer entries give details of their business and social arrangements as well as the health and activities of family and friends.
At the rear of the diary are address and personal accounts.
Enclosed with or glued into the diary are letters, notes, press cuttings and programs for concerts that relate to their time on board ship
