The artist's widow told the compiler (28 November 1961) that the present title of the drawing was given by her for the Leicester Galleries exhibition, to distinguish it from other drawings entitled ‘Reclining Nude’ in the same exhibition. She also said that an almost identical drawing had been purchased by Sir Kenneth Clark from the artist's studio in 1937 and lent to the Bloch exhibition at the Lefevre Gallery, February 1939 (26), as ‘Reclining Woman’.
