One of several pictures inspired by the classical landscape near La Gaude above the Valley of the Var. In the background is the mountain of Le Bahou de Saint-Jeannet. The artist used to stay at Cannes and drive over the country painting. The figures were added later (letter from Mrs de Glehn, 17 July 1957).
