Sheila Fell was born and brought up in Aspatria, Cumberland. Although she lived in London for most of her later life, she continued to make frequent visits to her family in Cumberland and took her subjects from the landscape there. She painted a number of views of Maryport, which lies on the coast, about ten miles south-west of Aspatria.
