Trained in art history, in the 1960s Martine Franck began working as an independent photographer for such publications as Life, The New York Times and Vogue and later became a member of Magnum Photos. Franck is particularly known for her sensitive photographs of the elderly, as in this photograph of Chelsea Pensioners, retired soldiers of the British Army at Chelsea Royal Hospital, London.
