In 1977 the Queen’s Silver Jubilee was marked with celebrations at every level throughout the
country and Commonwealth. The final event of the central week of celebrations was a river progress up the Thames from Greenwich to Lambeth on 9 June. Rather than documenting the royals, Greenwich, London 1977 focuses on a child among the crowd, wearing a celebratory hat and yet cheerless, physically restrained by crowd control barriers and set apart from the protagonists of the commemoration.
