Exh: Norwich Society of Artists 1806 (31)
T01890 was among the twenty-seven works shown by Ladbrooke at the exhibition of the Norwich Society of Artists in 1806. Appended to the title were lines from James Thomson's The Seasons, which also appear on a plaque on the frame: ‘But see the fading many coloured woods/Shade deepening over shade...’ (Autumn, lines 950–1). Ladbrooke used quotations from Thomson for three other paintings exhibited at Norwich in 1807 and 1813. On the back of the picture is an old printed label, preserved in a miniature frame, which reads: ‘ROB...ROOKE, JUN./.../LOOKING-G...RAME MAKER,/ Carver and Gilder,/SCOLE'S GREEN, NORWICH’.
