Technique and condition
The canvas has been painted using traditional techniques - impasto, glazing and scumbling. The oil medium may contain additives to impart extra transparency.
The present varnish is moderately discoloured and the restorations are visually adequate at present. The paint and ground layers are inherently unstable. The canvas is lined but the quality of the lining is poor.
