Technique and condition
The image is painted in watercolour with a pencil underdrawing on cream laid paper. The work scene is in good condition although slightly distorted owing to poor adhesion onto its secondary support. It has suffered some abrasion around the edges leading to a loss of watercolour pigment. The secondary support has suffered damage in the form of tears, losses and creases due to poor handling.
On acquisition the primary support was removed from its secondary support and old adhesives removed. The surface was dry-cleaned and the tears and creases repaired, prior to being pressed. The work was hinged back onto the secondary support and then mounted onto white museum board.
