Technique and condition
The image is painted in watercolour applied over a pencil underdrawing on white laid paper. The work is in good condition. Some discolouration in the sky area is evident, induced by contact with its secondary support. The recto bottom edge is lighter owing to previous part reduction of the pencil inscription, which has removed some of the watercolour pigment. The secondary support has suffered damage in the form of tears and creases owing to poor handling.
On acquisition the work was dry-cleaned and the tears and creases repaired, prior to being pressed, inlaid and mounted onto white museum board.
