In this illustration to Psalm 60, a priestess worships while playing a harp. She is clearly absorbed in her own thoughts as she plucks the strings of the instrument.
Simeon Solomon had a Jewish upbringing and produced many illustrations of Hebraic life and ritual for popular magazines such as Leisure Hour and Jews in England until his arrest for homosexual behaviour in 1873. He made a total of twenty designs for the Bible Gallery, of which only six were published in the first edition; the rest appeared in 1894.
