In this illustration to Psalm 60, a priestess worships while playing a harp. She is clearly absorbed in her own thoughts as she plucks the strings of the instrument. Simeon Solomon had a Jewish upbringing and produced many illustrations of Hebraic life and ritual for popular magazines such as Leisure Hour and Jews in England. He made a total of twenty designs for the Bible Gallery, of which only six were published in the first edition; the rest appeared in 1894.
