Catalogue entry

It has been alternatively suggested that this is a view of the Tay valley, near the junction with the Tummel at Logierait. However, Turner noted the subject in his 1801 Tummel Bridge sketchbook (Tate D03286–D03287; Turner Bequest LVII 5a–6), and Finberg identified it in his entry for that sketch as ‘Loch Long, with mountains’.1 The position of the sketch early in that book tends to confirm this identification.
