Catalogue entry

Turner negotiated the craggy and precipitous Alkenerbachtal on foot to sketch the village of Alken and Burg Thurandt from an inland viewpoint here. He had done the same to record the prospect on Tate D28573; Turner Bequest CCXCI 19.
For other views of Alken and the Burg Thurandt in this sketchbook see Tate D28371–D28372, D28575–D28577; Turner Bequest 18–18a, 20–1. See also the earlier Rivers Meuse and Moselle sketchbook of 1824 (Tate D19806–D19809; Turner Bequest CCXVI 128–129a).
