Display caption
This watercolour appears to have been painted at much the same time that Turner was working on the series of Picturesque Views on the Southern Coast of England, which grew out of his exploration of the south-west in 1811 and 1813. The range of different types of skies in the views he completed for this series reflects the vagaries of the English climate as experienced by Turner on his travels.
