Turner filled much of this page with studies of monumental architecture seen from a distance and at close quarters. Two pencil notes locate these sketches to the medieval city of Bayeux in Normandy. The top of the page also features a coastal view with a sail boat. Tate curator Ian Warrell suggested that this drawing was taken in the vicinity of Le Havre on the Normandy coast.1 A list of the pages featuring these sites is included in the sketchbook introduction for comparison.
