Catalogue entry

Turner filled the upper half of this page with studies of the town of Caen. Particular care has been taken over the depiction of the Abbey Church of Saint-Etienne in the upper left-hand quadrant of the page. The artist filled several pages of the present volume with studies of this Normandy town, a list of which is included in the sketchbook introduction.
