Maurice Davies has identified the source as probably Giulio Troili, Paradossi per Pratticare la Prospettiva senza Saperla, Bologna 1683, page 59, fig.II; it is one of several in the Perspective sketchbook which Turner did not use for his perspective lectures.1 He probably consulted the copy at the British Museum (since transferred to the British Library, London).
There is another diagram from the same source on folio 54 recto (D07449).
