Catalogue entry

This sketch depicts a distant view of Cortona, a hill town which lies between Perugia and Arezzo on the nineteenth-century road to Florence. In the bottom right-hand corner Turner has annotated the drawing with the location of his viewpoint, ‘Ossaia’, a village which lies a couple of miles to the south. A related study can be seen on folio 28 verso (D16538).
