Catalogue entry

The exact viewpoint of this drawing, inverted relative to sketchbooks’s foliation, has not been determined, but may have been on what is now Western Road, then the main road into Ivybridge from Plympton (drawn on the recto, D09719), which has seen much later development. The same scene is shown in a wash drawing by inscribed ‘Ivy Bridge, Sept 1 1820’ by Robert Hurrell Froude (Westcountry Studies Library, Exeter). There is a slight continuation of the trees at the left on folio 44 recto opposite (D09721). For other views of the town see under folio 45 recto (D09722).
