Catalogue entry

As Cecilia Powell first correctly identified this sketch depicts a distant view of Fiesole seen from the northern outskirts of Florence.1 Turner’s viewpoint is the banks of the River Mugnone looking north east. Silhouetted against the horizon at the top of the steep hill in the centre is the convent of San Francesco, whilst the building on the lower slopes immediately beneath is the Villa Palmieri, see folio 78 (D16616). A similar view can be seen on folio 80 verso (D16621).
