Catalogue entry

Made with the page turned horizontally, this is one of a group of sketches showing fishing boats in a tight group; see also folios 95 recto, 104 recto and 127 recto (D04110, D04120, D04145; Turner Bequest LXIX 96, 105, 128). Some of these seem related to the picture Turner exhibited in 1801 as Dutch Boats in a Gale: Fishermen Endeavouring to Put their Fish on Board (‘The Bridgewater Seapiece’) (private collection, on long loan to the National Gallery, London).1
