Catalogue entry

Made with the page turned horizontally, this sketch perhaps belongs with those on folios 7 recto (D04001), and 104 recto and 127 recto (D04120, D04145; Turner Bequest LXIX 105, 128). It may relate to the Dutch Boats in a Gale: Fishermen Endeavouring to Put their Fish on Board (‘The Bridgewater Seapiece’) of 1801 (private collection, on long loan to the National Gallery, London);1 there are slight connections also, perhaps, with Fishing Boats Entering Calais Harbour, of about 1803 (Frick Collection, New York).2
