From the ruins of the north transept, this sketch looks towards the east end of Elgin Cathedral. The presbytery with the remains of the rose window is at the right, and the octagonal chapter house with part of the north wall of the nave in front is at the left. This is one of fourteen sketches of Elgin Cathedral that Turner made in the Inverness sketchbook, see folio 139 (D27215) for references.
