Catalogue entry

With the sketchbook inverted is a view of New Abbey, Dumfries, from the east. The sketch shows the east window, the tower and the partially ruined north transept. It is almost the reverse of the view on folio 46 (D25851) which formed the basis of an illustration to Scott’s Prose Works (see folio 46 for details and references to other sketches).
