Catalogue entry

As Ian Warrell recognised, this is a view of Peveril Castle above Castleton Church,1 seen from the north-east. In the left foreground appears to be an earlier version of Spital Bridge, carrying the Castleton-Hope road over Peakshole Water. St Edmund’s Church is now obscured by trees from this point. For other views of Peveril Castle, Castleton and Peak Cavern, see under folio 1 verso (D22152); for similar views, see also folio 9 verso opposite (D22166).
