Catalogue entry

The Turner scholar C.F. Bell elaborated on Finberg’s 1909 Inventory entry (‘Roman Colonnade, San Lorenzo’): ‘Corso di Porta Ticinese, Milan’.1 Ian Warrell has noted the subject here as the cupola of the Basilica of San Lorenzo;2 the disjointed detail is effectively a continuation upwards from the full-page view on folio 10 recto opposite (D14342) showing the adjacent Roman colonnade along the Corso west of the church. At the gutter is a slight lateral continuation of that sketch.
See under folio 2 recto (D14328) for other Milan views.
