Catalogue entry

As identified by Cecilia Powell,1 this horizontal view is to the east along Regensburg’s medieval walls overlooking the River Danube, looking downstream to the city centre, where the Steinerne Brücke is seen in the distance. The viewpoint is uncertain, as the chain of towers along this stretch does not survive, and the quays are now tree-lined. There is a view in the opposite direction on folio 39 verso opposite (D31353).
For numerous contemporary views of Regensburg in this sketchbook and elsewhere, see under folio 18 verso (D31311).2
