Catalogue entry

With the page turned horizontally, this is a continuation from the full-page view of Regensburg Cathedral’s west front on folio 46 verso opposite (D31367), showing the capped towers as they then stood. The subject was identified by Cecilia Powell.1 In the 1860s they were extended2 with a further fenestrated stage and slender but heavily decorated spires of octagonal section, together roughly doubling the height of the façade.
For numerous contemporary views of Regensburg in this sketchbook and elsewhere, see under folio 18 verso (D31311).3
