Catalogue entry

These slight and loosely rendered sketches show Givet and the Fort Charlemont at a distance, as Turner made his way by boat towards Vireux. There is a squared-off landscape at right which has been annotated with the word ‘Wood’. Similar views are shown on the folio opposite: Tate D19670; Turner Bequest CCXVI 60a.
