Catalogue entry

As Turner’s inscriptions indicate the sketches on this page represent various views along the coast near Sorrento. The second and fourth sketches from the top depict the headland of the Punta Capo da Sorrento to the west, whilst the third sketch from the top shows the smoking crater of Vesuvius visible in the distance beyond a steep, sheer cliff. For further views of the Sorrento coastline see folios 61 verso–64 verso and 65 verso–66 verso (D15850–D15856 and D15858–D15860; Turner Bequest CLXXXV 60a–63a and 64a–65a).
