Catalogue entry

This page contains several sketches of views along the coast near Sorrento. The peninsula between Castellammare di Stabia and Sorrento is characterised by steep tufa cliffs and a sequence of sharp vertical headlands. The study in the bottom right-hand corner may represent the small fishing village of Marina Grande in Sorrento, see folio 60 (D15847; Turner Bequest CLXXXV 59). For further studies of the Sorrento coast see folios 61–66 verso (D15849–D15860; Turner Bequest CLXXXV 60–65a).
