Tate Collective Open Call: Tate Modern Mural

Want to see your artwork in Tate Modern?

To celebrate reaching 200k young people in Tate Collective, we're inviting creatives aged 16–25 to design a large-scale mural for Tate Modern.

Overview

Since 2018, Tate Collective open calls have showcased the works of young artists around London, Liverpool, within our Lates, Tate’s coffee packaging and more. For the first time in our history, a young artist's mural will take its place on the walls of Tate Modern alongside some of the greats in our collections and exhibitions.

Murals have always been a powerful way to tell stories, bring people together, and imagine different futures. We're living through a complex, fast-changing world shaped by social, economic and environmental challenges, and in times like these, community matters more than ever.

About the open call

The Tate Collective open call invites you to respond to the rich social and political history of mural-making. We want proposals that showcase the power of community, exploring how coming together can challenge existing systems and help build a more just, equitable future.

The mural will be installed on an indoor wall measuring 5.187 (h) x 13.368 (w) metres. The final work will be realised either as a painted mural or digitally produced design printed on recyclable vinyl. A panel of judges will review all eligible submissions and select one proposal for commission. The successful work will be displayed at Tate Modern from March 2027 to March 2028.

A fee of £2000 will be offered to the successful artist. Production and installation will be lead by Absolutely Studio, with all manufacturing and installation costs fully covered by Tate.
